Howdy y’all! My name is Alyson McCall and I am Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas 2008.  I live on a farm in rural Ottawa County, between Bennington and Minneapolis.  After graduating from Minneapolis High School, I am heading off to be a Wildcat at none other than Kansas State University, studying pre-veterinary medicine.

Growing up in a Christian household, my parents have instilled in me strong values and beliefs.  They taught me the importance of being my own person and standing up for what I believe in.  I have received strong support from my parents, Randy and Alice, throughout the years.  I want to thank them, as well as my sister Addy, for pushing me to become who I am today.

While in high school, I was active in scholars’ bowl, band, drama club, forensics, cheerleading, cross country, National Honor Society, student council, math relays, TASMAD (Take a Second, Make a Difference), and FFA.  As a four-year FFA member, I served as chapter secretary my sophomore year and president of the Minneapolis FFA chapter for two years.  I also had the opportunity to be a North Central District officer for two years, holding the offices of reporter and vice president.  I competed in many career development events, placing in livestock judging, public speaking, job interview, and horse judging.  I also received chapter and district awards for equine science entrepreneurship.  In 2007, I received my State Degree, the most prestigious award the state can bestow on an FFA member.

Being a member of 4-H since I was seven, I have been given many opportunities to excel.  From public speaking to horse activities, I have received many honors in this great organization.  Last year, I received the distinguished Key Award.  Through 4-H horse shows, I earned the opportunity to show my horses at the Kansas State Fair.  I also received the DJ Prochaska Versatility Award twice, all-around showman at the Ottawa County fair, and Grand Champion in Showmanship at the Ottawa County fair.

Another passion of mine is the sport of rodeo.  I have competed in rodeo pageants since I was eleven, and have enjoyed representing the titles I have earned.  In 2002, I was the Hill City Jayhawker Rodeo Princess.  I also held the titles of 2004 Central Plains Rodeo Association Princess and 2004 Junction City Rodeo Association Queen.  I love sharing my knowledge of rodeo with others.  Being Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas gives me an opportunity to promote a sport that I love and represent the cowboys and cowgirls that I admire.  Cowboys and cowgirls, unlike most professional athletes, only make money when they win.  To me, rodeo is the only true professional sport.  Your rodeo ticket is for the whole seat, but you are only going to need the edge of it!
