Kara Hackney

2007 Ellis County Rodeo Queen

Kara Hackney, 2007 Ellis County Rodeo Queen, is the 16-year-old daughter of Barbara Rupp and the late Jerry Hackney.  She attends Ellis High School as a junior.

Besides the great sport of rodeo, Kara is actively involved in FFA, as Northwest District Vice President and Chapter President; 4-H, as club Vice-President; KAYS; SADD; LINK; cheerleading, as Co-Captain, and track.  In her free time, she loves western photography, writing cowboy poetry, scrap booking, and public speaking.

In the future, Kara would love to get into breakaway roping, but most of all, she wants to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming Miss Rodeo America, and to serve as the spokeswoman of professional rodeo.  She also plans on attending college, first at Fort Hays State University, and then at Kansas State University, to major in veterinary medicine.

Kara would like to give a thanks to her sponsors, Hillside Veterinary Clinic; Hays Livestock Market; Ed Mattke, farrier; Double S Ag Repair; Lifetime Dental Care, Auto World, and Off the Top.

“Rodeo is a sport different from any other.  Not in many sports do you see competitors cheering each other on and coaching each other from the sidelines.  I’m so thankful to see so many men and women living the cowboy way and continuing the western traditions.  I can’t imagine a life without rodeo, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to promote the Ellis County Rodeo across the sunflower state.”
