The Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen is a young lady who strives to promote the State of Kansas and the Sport of Professional Rodeo, and in so doing, promote the great western way of life. Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen will be a talented, personable horsewoman with the vast knowledge of the sport of rodeo, the equine industry and the State of Kansas. She is a young lady who enjoys travel and has a sincere interest in garnering educational experiences, which will assist in laying a solid foundation for her future.

Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Eligibility Requirements
The Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Pageant Committee and Board of Directors will operate the pageant under some of the gidelines of the Miss Rodeo Kansas Pageant. The pageant committee has the authority to make provisions and waive eligibility, rules and/or regulation requirements with the approval of the Board.
Contestants shall agree to abide by all rules and regulations set forth by the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Pageant Committee and Board. Breaking of any rules and regulations will be automatic disqualifications of contestants from competition.
Eligibility for Queen
1. Queen contestants must not be less than 17 or more than 22 years of age as of May 31 of the year of competition.
2. Contestant must be a legal resident of the State of Kansas twelve months prior to the pageant.
3. Contestants must be single and never been married.
4. Contestants may not be the mother of a child.
5. Contestants shall not have been a previous contestant or titleholder of any national pageant in the year of competition.
6. Contestant shall waive liability.
7. Contestant must agree to abide by pageant rules with the possibility of disqualification for infractions.
8. When a contestant becomes Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen, she must be available to fulfill all the required duties of her reign.
9. If a winning contestant becomes pregnant during her reign, she shall forfeit her crown and all benefits derived from the pageant. She must also agree not to marry during her reign. If she should decide to do so, the title will go to the 1st runner up and she will also forfeit all prizes and moneys won at the pageant.
10. If a winning contestant becomes involved in any criminal act (including but not limited to illegal drug or alcohol use) not withstanding the outcome she will relinquish her title and all benefits derived from the pageant to the 1st runner up.
11. All contestants should understand the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen reign will start the night of coronation and ends the following year the night of coronation.
12. Contestants agree that if she would receive a title that requires her to give up all her present titles, (including all benefits & prizes) that she will comply with Eligibility #13 of the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen regulations .
13. Contestants understand that in the event, they do not comply with the terms and conditions of the conditions of this contract, the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Committee, has the absolute right to request that they forfeit eligibility for the title and/or would be required to resign the title of Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen. In which event, I shall so immediately resign and forfeit eligibility and/or the right to said title. Upon resignation, I shall forfeit and/or return to the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Pageant all awards, prizes and funds to which I would otherwise be entitled. In the event of my resignation whether voluntary or upon request of the Pageant, I recognize the right of the Pageant to select my successor and such person so selected shall be entitled to receive such prizes, awards and funds so determined by the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Pageant.
Rules and Regulations
1. Contestants must conduct themselves in a proper lady-like manner and portray high moral standards. Contestants will not be permitted to drink alcoholic beverages, smoke or use of tobacco or foul language at any time during the pageant.
2. Each contestant will be required to supply the pageant with (10 head and shoulder photo shot in full western attire including hat.) The photo should be a 4x6 color photo.
3. Each contestant is required to submit a non-refundable $50.00 entry fee with the application. This should be payable to Beef Empire Days Rodeo Pageant.
4. Contestants must sign waiver agreement, release of liability forms and complete application form upon entering the Beef Empire Days Rodeo pageant by May 22, 2009.
5. Contestants will be under the supervision of the Beef Empire Days Committee and Board of Directors.
6. Contestants will provide their own transportation to and from the pageant.
7. Contestants will provide their own horses and tack for the pageant. Beef Empire Days Committee will provide your numbers for the Horsemanship competition.
8. Contestants must provide their own wardrobe and agree to follow the wardrobe guidelines. Please read wardrobe guidelines.
9. After pageant begins, contestants will not be allowed to communicate with family or friends during competition or unless authorized by a chaperone.
10. There will be a contestant and parent orientation at the Finney County Fairgrounds at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009.
11. Contestants are expected to present a 2 minute speech on Rodeo, Sport of Rodeo, or on Beef Empire Days Rodeo. It is recommended the speech be memorized and no props will be allowed.
12. Contestants will be required to model one western dress or skirt outfit and one western jeans outfit. In addition, contestants will be required to answer one current event question and/or extemporaneous question sometime during the Style Show.
13. Contestants will have at least one personal interview. Contestants should study rodeo and current event information.
14. Queen contestants will be required to ride 2 patterns during the horsemanship competition, as well as flag run and queen’s wave.
15. All contestants will be required to be at the coronation stage area after the coronation for pictures whether you have won anything or not.
16. Contestants are responsible for reading and understanding all pageant rules and regulations before entering the pageant. Questions should be directed to the Pageant Director.
17. The Beef Empire Days Rodeo Pageant Board expects each contestant to display the highest degree of sportsmanship during the pageant and following coronation. Each contestant should be mindful that she is representing her hometown, her hometown rodeo and the Beef Empire Days pageant and the sport of Professional Rodeo. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. It could result in the contestant being disqualified and may affect further eligibility to compete in the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Pageant.
18. The pageant committee tries to make this a fun experience but we need your help. Coming with a good attitude will help. We also understand how unnerving this can be and we will help in any way we can.

Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Judging Guidelines
A. Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen is judged in four categories; knowledge, personality, horsemanship and appearance. Judges are selected for their expertise in all fields of the competition.
B. Three judges will judge all categories of the Pageant. All three scores will be totaled and averaged for each contestant each time they are judges.
a. The contestant receiving the highest grand total score for the days competition shall be crowned Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen. The contestant receiving the second highest grand total shall be first runner up. The contestant receiving the third highest grand total shall be second runner up.
b. Ties resulting in an event winners will be broken by referring back to Judge #1. Judge #1’s score will break the tie. If a tie still remains, Judge #2’s score will be used and so on until the tie is broken. A tie for Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen and runner up will be broken by the horsemanship scores, i.e. the contestant with the highest score in horsemanship will receive the higher ranking.
C. Judges should all have an awareness of correct western dress and should be experienced western-type horsewoman or horsemen who are accustomed to judging horse events. “Horsepeople” who are familiar with correct western attire and work with the public in everyday situations are normally a good choice for judges.
D. The judges will have at least one private interview with each contestant. Pageant directors will be responsible for maintaining order and keeping succeeding contestant out of hearing range while the interview is being conducted. Questions of the contestants should pertain to all three facets of the contest and a score for all four divisions – knowledge, appearance, personality, horsemanship, is given at the end of interview.
E. In each category during the interviews by judges, questions asked should be serious and thought provoking. Questions should be in depth so that the judges may determine the character and knowledge of each contestant whether they are being questioned on the sport of rodeo and related activities, horse science or current events. Interview length should be sufficient for contestant and judges to communicate and not be “uptight”. Private interviews should conducted only with judges and contestant present, not exceeding 15 minutes. If needed, the timer is the only other person allowed during private interview.
F. Each contestant is required to give a two (2) minute speech on rodeo, the sport of rodeo or Beef Empire days Rodeo.
G. Extemporaneous questions are asked of each contestant at one function and possibly two, these scores will be part of the overall score.
H. Each contestant may be required to ride a horse in two (2) different go rounds of horsemanship competition. During each go round of horsemanship, each contestant is scored in all four divisions – knowledge, horsemanship, appearance, personality, taking into consideration the contestants appearance and the personality she projects from the horse .
I. Scores for the contestants will be turned into the Pageant committee after the event. The contestant receiving the highest score for the day will be crowned Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen. The second highest will be runner up.
J. Judges should also have a resume containing picture, judging aid, brief list of hobbies and other activities on each contestant. These should be included in the judge’s packet. Judging will take precedence over all pageant activities.
PAGEANT DIVISIONS
APPEARANCE
The purpose of this judging division is to select the contestant who rates highest in:
1. Attractiveness.
2. Grooming – this should include neatness and cleanliness in every detail such as complexion, hands, fingernails, hair, hat, boots and other wearing apparel. Meticulous care in general grooming is essential for a contestant to be considered as Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen.
3. Photogenic Quality – judges will have pictures (head and shoulder) of each contestant to study. A girl’s strength of character and personality are reflected strongly in a wholesome appearance. The judges may have a final session of photo judging before handing in final score sheets.
4. Posture.
5. Poise and ladylike behavior in every situation.
6. Contestants awareness of what is fashionable western dress with particular attention given to color coordination (contestant should be aware of how the use of various color combinations can enhance appearance and eye appeal).
7. Judges will be observing how contestants clothing fits and suits her personality. This includes length of her trousers, the crease and shape of her hat as well as how she carries out the “total look”. This is not a clothing contest. It is not necessary to invest in an excessive amount of expensive clothing. An outline of what to wear will be put in the wardrobe guidelines. Judges will be looking for versatility and imagination displayed by the contestant.
8. Contestants will be required to describe the outfits they will be wearing and may be questioned on their familiarity of western wear.
9. Style Show Dress – will be dressy western outfit and a colored jeans outfit.
10. The purpose of the pageant is to choose a title winner who portrays the wholesome ideal young lady.
PERSONALITY
The purpose of this division is to select the contestant who rates the highest in:
1. Intelligence.
2. Education – conversational ability in rodeo and other areas, with special emphasis on grammar and enunciation.
3. Conversational ability in varied areas.
4. Sense of humor.
5. Genuine interest in other people and noticeable consideration of others.
6. Projection (ability to project one’s personality whether it be on horseback in the arena, on television or before an audience).
7. Positive outlook on life in general.
8. Promptness in keeping pageant schedule.
9. Showmanship (being able to present oneself in a gracious manner).
HORSEMANSHIP
The purpose of this division is to select a contestant who rate highest in:
1. Horsemanship to include control of her mount and the way any situation, that may occur, is handled.
2. Balance, the ability to sit in the saddle.
3. Position on hands, feet and seat.
4. Mounting and dismounting.
5. The understanding and the skill of the contestant will be judged and not the horse or the equipment.
6. Each contestant may be interviewed on each of the following categories; knowledge of tack, horse care, feeding, disease, anatomy, etc., knowledge of Professional rodeo, it’s history – organization – rodeo terminology or vernacular – awareness of PRCA championships and going on in the ProRodeo World. (an excellent source for information is the “PSN” ProRodeo Sports News published monthly – write PRCA, 101 ProRodeo Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80919 for information).
7. Pattern – there may be two (2) go rounds of horsemanship competition. You MIGHT draw for a different horse for the 2nd pattern. Patterns to be used will be from the diagrams found in this packet. At the discretion of the judges/committee, patterns may be altered due to the arena conditions. Contestants will also be required to dismount and remount, carry a flag and perform a queen’s wave. Any changes and/or alterations to the horsemanship patterns will be announced to the contestants before the horsemanship competition begins. The reigning Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen will set the pattern.
8. Dress wear for horsemanship; colored or blue denim western cut jeans, western blouse or shirt with long sleeves. Any color accessories may be used (hat, boot, belt). Chaps and spurs are not permitted. All riding attire should be neat and fit properly. Showmanship should be considered.
9. Faults in pageant are: losing hat, losing stirrups, omitting part of the horsemanship pattern.
10. During the queen run, contestants should present the queen’s wave.
KNOWLEDGE
The purpose of this division is to select the contestant who rates the highest in:
1. Intelligence: Response to questions asked by judges on tack, horse care, feeding, disease, anatomy, etc., knowledge of Professional Rodeo, it’s history – organization n- rodeo terminology or vernacular – awareness of PRCA champions and current events in ProRodeo world.
2. Conversational Ability: In Rodeo and other areas, with special emphasis on grammar and enunciation. Response to Impromptu question and during personal interview, showing maturity, intelligence, wisdom and imagination.
3. Speech: Two (2) minute on Rodeo, Sport of Rodeo or Beef Empire Days Rodeo. Along with creativity, contestants and correct grammar.
WARDROBE GUIDELINES
1. The competition includes horsemanship, speech, fashion show, interviews and coronation ceremony. It may also include other events.
2. Style show clothing should consist of two (2) outfits. Western dress or skirt outfit should be made in a western style with color to show up on stage. Also a colored jeans and shirt outfit for modeling.
3. Contestants may wear same colored jeans and shirt outfit for interviews that was worn for style show.
4. Outfit for Queen contestants for grand entry at the evening performances of the rodeo should consist of jeans, long sleeve blouses, boots and hat, with color to show up as you round the arena. There may be a TETWP perf so be prepared to have a pink outfit for this occasion, should it arise.
5. The speech outfit should be a dressy western outfit.
6. Horsemanship wardrobe should consist of jeans of any style or color with coordinating long sleeve shirt that should be tucked in. Chaps are not permitted.
7. Contestants shall wear no personal crowns or banners. The pageant will provide contestants numbers for each contestant, they must be worn at all times.
8. Contestants can not wear fashion heels. Western Boots to be worn at all times.
9. Long sleeved shirts are required at all times. NO cleavage and nothing bra-less. Proper slips under clothing.
10. Boot and skirt heights compatible and all split skirts in good taste.
11. Baggy or poorly tailored pant or jackets are now allowed.
12. Contestants should use good judgment in selection of her wardrobe. Western hat, boots and belts should accompany all outfits. This is not a clothing contest so we recommend you wear an outfit more than one time to defray costs.
Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Guidelines
The purpose of these guidelines is to help you know what is expected of you upon winning the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen title.
1. The reign will take affect immediately following coronation on June 13, 2009.
2. All contacts and dealings need to be discussed with Wally Garcia, Pageant Coordinator.
3. After you win the title, you should have a 5 x 7 picture taken for signing autographs; make sure it represents you as 2009 Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen.
4. You can obtain a sponsor to cover costs of this but you cannot charge a fee for any of your appearances.
5. The Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen pageant is not responsible for finding any sponsors or moneys during your reign. The pageant is willing to help in any other way possible.
6. The Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen pageant is not responsible for providing any type of transportation to any appearance you schedule.
7. The Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen pageant Committee sould like for you to promote the sport of rodeo and the State of Kansas. Also represent the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen Pageant with intelligence and dignity at all times.
8. The Beef Empire Days Rodeo queen pageant Committee, would like for you to travel with either a family member or responsible person or a female committee member. Traveling alone is discouraged for security reasons.
9. You will be expected to act with good morale character at all times, you will be representing your state, city, family and the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Committee and the PRCA.
10. At all times, you will be looked upon as the Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen and will be expected to conduct yourself accordingly.
11. If you choose to conduct yourself in a disrespectful manner, you could be asked to give up your title or any other prizes you have won.
12. Your conduct at all times shall be an example to the public, which includes, no smoking, drinking, chewing (tobacco or gum), foul language or inappropriate social behavior during your reign.
13. The Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen crown and banner will be worn at all times while you are representing yourself as Beef Empire Days Rodeo Queen.
14. You will meet with a representative of the Beef Empire Days Committee to sign the guidelines a soon as coronation is complete. There will be no exceptions.
15. You are required to attend the pageant competition the following year and attend any function in conjunction with the pageant and/or rodeo.
16. You may be required to attend any function throughout the year that Beef Empire Days Rodeo Committee sponsors.
17. Scholarship and/or prize money must be used entirely in the year of your reign.
